Presentation on Misclassification of Employees vs. Contractors

At the CXO Forum on February 9, 2017, William J. “Bill” Bethune of McCandlish Lillard presented an exploration of the factors that the IRS and others apply in determining whether a person is an employee or independent contractor in the context of employment taxes and for the purposes of general liability considerations. Bill was assisted in his presentation by John M. “Vanya” Bilyeu, Jr., an associate with McCandlish Lillard focusing his practice in the areas of business law, commercial real estate and estate planning. The event was held at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

As noted in CXO Forum’s own release, Bill is a Senior Counsel at McCandlish Lillard, who has been selected to Virginia Business Magazine’s Legal Elite, in the category of Business Law, for 8 straight years.  Bill has a major focus in his law practice on personnel matters, especially employee versus contractor law.  Bill’s deep understanding of this subject, the issues and nuances around the determination and the tax decision tree provided us a solid knowledge base and tools.  Bill opened a terrific discussion and Q&A session.
