McCandlish Lillard Grows by Two More Lawyers

Date: October 3, 2017
Fairfax and Leesburg, VA
– McCandlish Lillard is pleased to announce that in mid-September 2017 both Jonathan C. Martin and Emily C. Brown have joined the firm. Jonathan’s practice will focus on business entity formation, financing, governance and other related transactions, as well as real estate sales, financing, leasing and acquisition, and trusts and estates; Emily’s practice will include most kinds of civil litigation, including everything from complex commercial litigation to personal injury work, family law and guardianships.

Emily, who worked at the firm as a summer associate during the summer of 2015, joins the firm’s Civil Litigation practice group as an associate, after a year of clerking for the Honorable Chief Judge Bruce D. White of the Fairfax County Circuit Court. While at the Circuit Court, Emily assisted the Court with complex civil litigation and domestic matters. Emily comes to the firm with invaluable practical understanding and experience of the Fairfax County Circuit Court and Clerk’s Office.

Emily graduated cum laude from George Mason University School of Law in May 2016. During law school, Emily was Vice President of the Trial Advocacy Association, and played an integral part in organizing the annual Costello Competition, a mock trial competition that featured over 30 teams from across the nation. Emily was also a member of the Moot Court Board, and was a finalist in the 2015 Bryant and Moore Invitational Moot Court Competition, hosted at Howard University.

Prior to law school, Emily worked as a government contractor at the General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, DC. She graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. In her free time, Emily enjoys the outdoors with her husband and rescue dog, as well as cheering on the Hokies during college football season.

Jonathan joins the firm’s Business and Real Estate Law practice groups as a new associate. Jonathan graduated from The George Washington University Law School in May 2017. Jonathan joins the firm after gaining significant experience with a major real estate company in commercial office and retail leasing, as well as in District of Columbia real property tax appeals.

During his time in law school, Jonathan was a member of the ABA’s Public Contract Law Journal (PCLJ). His note discussing a proposed reform of the Program Fraud Civil Remedies Act was published in Volume 46-4 of PCLJ, the Summer 2017 issue.

Jonathan graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a degree in Finance. When Jonathan has the time, he enjoys reading spy novels, playing organized sports including softball (he was captain of the GW Law Softball Team), hiking with his dog, and indulging in fantasy sports.
